What is a masseter treatment?
The masseters are the strong muscles found on either side of your jaw. We use them whenever we bite or chew, and they can become enlarged or overactive in some people.
Anti-wrinkle injections in the masseter muscles temporarily reduces activity within these muscles. Depending on your facial structure, this may gradually soften the appearance of a broad or square jaw and create a less prominent lower-face shape. You may also consider our lower-face anti-wrinkle treatment if you want to address the entire lower face.
Some people also ask us about masseter treatment because they clench or grind their teeth. These symptoms can have several causes, so we may recommend that you also speak with your dentist or another healthcare professional.
This is a prescription-only treatment, so we’ll need to assess your medical history, muscle strength, facial proportions and desired result before deciding whether it’s appropriate for you.
Masseter treatment for jaw slimming, clenching or teeth grinding
We may consider masseter treatment if you’re concerned about: • A wide or square-looking lower face caused by prominent jaw muscles • Enlarged or overdeveloped masseter muscles • Creating a softer-looking lower-face shape • Jaw tension or clenching • Symptoms associated with teeth grinding The treatment won’t change the underlying bone structure of your jaw or reduce facial fat. It may also be unsuitable if reducing the muscle could make existing skin laxity more noticeable, so we’ll always assess your whole lower face rather than looking at the jaw muscles in isolation.
Our approach is calm, honest and personalised. Our team will always take time to assess your face, listen to your concerns and explain whether this treatment is right for you.
Our teams qualifications and experience include:
Our Beaconsfield clinic is convenient for clients visiting from surrounding areas including High Wycombe, Amersham, Gerrards Cross, Marlow, Chalfont St Peter, Chalfont St Giles, Hazlemere and wider Buckinghamshire. We also have select appointments in Holmer Green.
Results may last for approximately five to six months, although everyone responds differently. You may notice a change in tension before you see a visible difference in the shape of your lower face, as the muscle usually becomes less prominent gradually.
Possible effects include temporary tenderness, redness, swelling, bruising, asymmetry or a change in how your jaw feels when chewing. In some people, reducing the masseter muscles could also make existing skin laxity more noticeable. We’ll talk you through the relevant risks before you decide whether to proceed.
Reducing activity in the masseter muscles may help some people who clench or grind their teeth. However, these symptoms can have several causes. If you regularly experience grinding, jaw pain, headaches or problems with your jaw joint, we may also recommend speaking with your dentist or doctor.
It may create a slimmer-looking lower face when prominent masseter muscles are responsible for the width. It cannot reduce facial fat or change your jawbone, so we’ll first assess what is contributing to your face shape and explain what result may be realistic.
We offer masseter consultations at Sculpt by Kelly Swann inside Revive, 9 Penn Road, Beaconsfield. We’ll assess your jaw movement, facial proportions, medical history and reasons for considering treatment before discussing your options.
