Dermal fillers for dark circles and under-eye hollowing

Looking tired is not always the same as feeling tired, and that's why tear trough filler is a popular treatment at Sculpt. For some people, a natural hollow beneath the eyes creates a shadow that makes the area appear darker or more sunken. This may be genetic, or it can become more noticeable as facial volume and structural support change over time, especially as we enter our 40s.

Tear trough filler is one of our specialist dermal filler treatments intended to restore a small amount of support within this hollow. When appropriate, it can help soften the transition between the lower eyelid and upper cheek and create a smoother, more rested appearance.

What is the tear trough?

The tear trough is the groove that begins close to the inner corner of the eye and continues towards the upper cheek. A deeper tear trough can create shadowing beneath the eyes. This may contribute to the appearance of dark circles even when the skin itself is not heavily pigmented.

Don't worry, as we age, under-eye hollowing is completely normal. They can also become more visible because of natural face anatomy, generics, loss of volume beneath the eyes, reduced support through the upper cheek, changes in facial fat pads, thinning skin and the natural ageing process.

We'll usually use a blunt-tipped cannula rather than a traditional needle, where suitable. This allows the filler to be placed through fewer entry points and may help reduce bruising and tissue trauma within the delicate under-eye area.

What can tear trough filler help improve?

Soften visible under-eye hollows

Reduce shadows beneath the eyes

Create a smoother transition between the lower eyelid and cheek

Improve a sunken or tired-looking appearance

Restore subtle support where volume has reduced

Create a fresher and more rested appearance

Improve balance between the under-eye and upper-cheek area

• A NOTE FORM KELLY

love this treatment, but results should be subtle. The under-eye area generally requires careful product selection and conservative placement rather than significant volume. The results are honestly gorgeous and make such a difference, despite it being subtle.

What happens at your tear trough filler appointment?

Your appointment begins with a detailed consultation to assess your under-eye hollows, skin quality, facial structure and the support provided by your upper cheeks.

Is tear trough filler right for you?

It's worth noting that tear trough filler will not treat every under-eye concern

There is an important difference between tear trough treatment and many other filler procedures. Tear trough filler is not automatically suitable simply because you have dark circles, lines or bags beneath your eyes.

It may not be the best option if your concern is primarily caused by:

Skin pigmentation

Prominent under-eye bags

Fluid retention or persistent puffiness

Very thin, loose skin or significant skin laxity

Crepey skin texture

or if previous filler that has not settled appropriately

In these cases, adding filler could fail to address the real cause of the concern or could make the area appear puffier. Kelly will assess what is creating the appearance you dislike before recommending treatment.

After understanding your concerns, we'll be able to recommend the most suitable treatment for you. Under-eye Polynucleotides and under-eye skin boosters are also very popular treatments for address under-eye concerns.

• A NOTE FORM KELLY

The under-eye area needs a particularly careful approach. Seeing a hollow or dark circle does not automatically mean that filler should be placed there.

I’ll look at your under-eyes, skin quality, cheeks and face as a whole before advising you. Where filler is suitable, the aim will be a soft, rested-looking improvement. Where another treatment would give you a better result, I’ll explain that honestly.

Tear trough Filler FAQs

How much is tear trough filler in Beaconsfield?

Tear trough filler at Sculpt by Kelly Swann in Buckinghamshire, costs £260. Your appointment includes an individual consultation, suitability assessment, personalised treatment planning and aftercare advice. One session is usually needed.

What is tear trough filler?

Tear trough filler is an injectable treatment used to restore subtle support within the hollow between the lower eyelid and upper cheek. By reducing the depth of this hollow, treatment may soften the shadowing that makes the under-eye area appear dark, sunken or tired.

Is tear trough filler the same as under-eye filler?

Yes. The terms tear trough filler and under-eye filler are frequently used to describe the same treatment. The tear trough is the hollow that extends from the inner corner of the eye towards the upper cheek.

Can tear trough filler improve dark circles?

It may improve dark circles when they are caused or worsened by a hollow that creates a shadow beneath the eye. Filler will not remove pigment from the skin. If the darkness is primarily caused by pigmentation, very thin skin or visible blood vessels, another treatment may be more appropriate.

Can tear trough filler treat eye bags?

Tear trough filler does not remove under-eye bags. In selected cases, softening the hollow beneath a bag may make the transition appear smoother. However, filler can worsen puffiness in unsuitable candidates, so an individual assessment is essential.

Can tear trough filler help with under-eye wrinkles?

Tear trough filler is used primarily to address hollowing and volume loss rather than surface wrinkles. Where fine lines or crepey skin are the main concern, Kelly may recommend a skin-quality treatment such as polynucleotides instead.

How do I know whether I need tear trough filler or polynucleotides?

Tear trough filler may be more appropriate where there is a defined hollow and associated shadowing.

Polynucleotides may be considered where the concern is primarily thin, crepey or poor-quality under-eye skin rather than a significant hollow. Some clients have a combination of concerns. Kelly will assess the area and recommend the option that is most appropriate.

Could I need cheek filler instead?

Possibly. The upper cheek provides support beneath the eye. If reduced cheek volume is contributing to the under-eye hollow, Kelly may recommend supporting the cheek before deciding whether direct tear trough treatment is necessary.

How long does tear trough filler last?

Like all dermal fillers, tear trough filler is temporary. Results are often described as lasting between approximately 6 and 18 months, although longevity varies according to the filler used, your anatomy, metabolism and previous treatment.

Will I see a result immediately?

A change may be visible immediately after treatment. However, swelling, bruising or temporary puffiness can affect how the area looks initially. Your final result should be assessed after the area has had time to settle.

Does tear trough filler hurt?

The experience varies between clients. You may feel pressure, a brief sting or mild discomfort during treatment. Kelly will explain what to expect and take appropriate steps to make the appointment as comfortable as possible.

We'll usually use a blunt-tipped cannula rather than a traditional needle, where suitable. This allows the filler to be placed through fewer entry points and may help reduce bruising and tissue trauma within the delicate under-eye area.
